| Why doesn’t Porto Alegre carry artificial sweeteners? At Porto Alegre we try to encourage our customers to avoid chemically processed sweeteners. We did compromise with splenda now, and we also have organic sugar cane. |
Do you accept credit/debit cards? Porto Alegre only accepts American Express, Visa, and Mastercard. We encourage our customers to pay with cash so that we can keep our prices low for the quality we give. |
Can I substitute any item in my order? We do allow few substitutions but for the most part we are not a make your own dishes type of place. We created each dish to work with certain ingredients, we priced accordingly as well as provide the fresh ingredients as possible. |
| Are there accommodations for food allergies? We have a large selections of options for gluten free people including our Pao de queijo (cheese bread). We do bake and cook with nuts and it is imperative that you let us know of your allergies. |

Why do our hours change so much? After 16 years in Manhattan it is not easy to understand the patterns and the needs of the area. The owner has 3 children and she is seeking to balance family life with a very demanding work schedule. We want to focus on what the area needs most, and so far it seems Lunch and Dinner is best. We are closed on Sundays. |
